Gooooodbye, comm! + What I've commented on. :)

So, I think that the whole comm course in general was pretty good. :) And I think that if I didn't slack off and procrastinate, all of my stuff could've turned out really good .. x)

Anyways, our first project was the multiple exposure. I did it with my friend, Diana, and we had fun doing it. :) It didn't really take long either, which was good. I liked this project alot. :) I wish I had a picture of it, but I don't know where it is, unfortunately.

The next project was the collage. I got kind of carried away with this one, and put WAY too many pictures and sort of forgot about the whole theme of the project.. :) But I really liked this project too! I was okay with how mine turned out, I just wish I started it earlier!

The project after that was the illustrator project.. which I'll admit to starting REALLY late. Vectorizing was pretty fun, and it was pretty addicting once you actually got to doing it. It was suuuuper confusing at first, but I ended up liking it a lot. :) I vectorized Ed Westwick (<3), but I wasn't really happy with how it turned out. I think it could have been a lot better, but that's okay. :)

Our last project was our moviemaker video. This was probably my favourite project in the course, because I love making videos with my friends. :) So we started planning this video early, and first planned to get it in for the art show. We also ended up having four people in our group, because of a little mix up (.. oops.) Anyways, we planned to have it done for the art show, but that didn't work because we forgot things couldn't get signed out during art show prep. :( But we ended up finishing it later anyways, and ended up with the theme "I Am.. Random". :) I reaaally liked how this one ended up! It makes me happy whenever I see it, haha. If I ever get a chance to upload it anywhere, I'll post it up!

So to sum this all up, the comm course was actually a really good one. It's a great course when you actually put time and effort into it (and don't rush everything till the end of the year!) If I could go back in time, I would definitely start everything when were supposed to instead of leaving it last minute. But yeah, I ended up liking this course in the end. :)

The Campaign Trail.

Wasssssuuppppp?!

I loved these commercials! I sort of remember the whole 'wassssuppppp?' thing from a really long time ago, and it was a really good memory when we watched it in comm. :) This was a really smart commercial for Obama to create, for it brought light to many situations in which he could change - homelessness, unemployment, war, and much more. This commercial added comedy to serious issues, and still made Obama look great. I don't know about you, but the ending of the 2008 commercial made me really happy and smiley inside. :) It made me believe that Obama really could bring change to the issues happening in the US right now. And to this day, I still believe that he can do it. Go Obama! :)

I think that this commercial was truly a great choice for Obama to use as a campaign. Like I said, it really made me believe that he could bring the change which the US is needing right now. The commercial felt pretty real, and I felt like I could connect with the actors in a way because their situations were pretty realistic (but only a little bit overexaggerated). I think that this campaign was so effective, and that Obama was truly the most deserving winner.

Change, that's wassssup! :)

"Everything is amazing & nobody's happy"

I think that Louis CK was very funny, and at the same time very true. We've become so dependent on technology these days that majority of us wouldn't know how to cope if everything were to just disappear. Take the blackout that happened a few years back for example. I remember when everything suddenly stopped - I was in shock. I didn't know what to do, and I remember sitting bored for about a day. But in the end, I think that the blackout really was a good thing for us. By the end of the blackout, many of us had a chance to reconnect with family and do things together with people that we wouldn't usually do. We found ways to occupy ourselves without electricity, which I think was really good. Though, I remember being overjoyed when the lights came back on.. x) Anyways, I think that we all need to take the time away from technology sometimes to truly appreciate the things we have on our hands right now. Half the things we have, our parents didn't even dream of when we were younger! And now technology is increasing faster than ever. To be completely honest, I don't know what I'd do without my cellphone, iPod, or computer. These things have become such necessities in our lives, and I think that Louis CK's video really opens our eyes to what a technological world we now live in.

Eccentrick art show - 2009! :)

I think that the art show this year was a big success.. but not that that's really a big surprise. I love the art show every year. :) I remember the first art show I went to. I think it was about four years ago, and my sister had art in it.. I think it might've been Merge. But I remember that I was fascinated with everything I saw there. And this year was no different. :) Last year's art show was also amazing. I loved Echo! But I think that Eccentrick was equally, if not more amazing than the past art shows I've been to. Sometimes you have to wonder how art pulls it off every year, but they do every time. I think that the only bad thing there is about art show is that it's so addicting, as in, you don't want to stop going to back. During art show week, I always seem to find me telling myself not to go back to the art show, no matter how much I want to go - that's how much I love it. :)

As for my favourite art piece, I don't think I can choose! I always love everything at the art show. But I think that some of my favourites were the stuffed dolls in design, the 'I Am' videos in comm, and a ton of stuff from art. I kind of really regret not being able to see any of the film videos, though. Oh, and you also can't forget the performances! My friends Erika Bautista & Angel Lopez (erikarosebautista & staarshineee on YouTube, subscriiiiiibe!) got to perform everyday, and I absolutely loved hearing them perform. So I think that those were my favourite parts of the art show.

So, I think that Eccentrick was a huge success. Congrats art, on yet another amazing one. :) I'm most definitely looking forward to art show 2010!

Colossal U Ad Campaign.

.. Can I just say that I'm proud that I got this one? I sort of understood it right away, but only because I was fooled the first time. Remember these ads?

(click for full)

Well actually, when I first saw the Colossal U ads, I didn't think anything of it. I actually thought that that was what the university did. I was thinking to myself okay, that's kinda weird, but sure.. But then I really thought about it, and the Obay ads came running into my thoughts. :) So I kind of got that it wasn't a real ad after thinking about it.

After finding out the real meaning, I think that this is a really clever ad. It makes you think, and the slogans in the Colossal U ads ('Every Colossal U student will turn out exactly the same. We guarantee it' and 'New ideas? New thinking? Not at Colossal U') make you wonder why they would think of such a thing. It's not really something that would attract students to their school. However, it makes you wonder these things and want to check it out for yourself. Then you reach Algoma University and think, hey, this is so much better than that Colossal University... :)

Excuse Me While I Answer My Phone...

Imagine this: You're on the bus early in the morning, on your way to school. It's nice and quiet, until the driver gets to the next stop. The doors open, and in come a few kids. Unfortunately, the first thing you hear from them is the annoying voice of a girl practically screaming "OMG DID YOU HEAR WHAT HAPPENED TO SUSIE?", along with the blast of some rap song you can't even understand coming from another boy's phone.

Or maybe you're more familiar with this: You're at a restaurant with your friend whom you haven't seen in months. You're really happy to be catching up with them again, and you're deep into conversation. "Hey, there's something I really need to tell you. It's really imp--" Then all of a sudden you friend has a startled look on her face and says, "Hold on! Someone's texting me! OMG, I HAVE TO CALL HER RIGHT AWAY!" And quickly starts talking on her phone while you're stuck sitting there waiting.

Have either of these situations, or something similar, happened to you? It's annoying, isn't it? I think that some people don't understand the proper usage of a phone anymore. I remember way back when having a cell phone was simply considered 'cool'. But look at the world now - can you even imagine living without a cell phone? It's even weird to think of going to a mall without seeing a cell phone used. Some people consider it a neccessity now, and to be honest, I kind of do myself. My phone's sort of like my security blanket. It helps my parents to know where I am, and when I'm meeting someone or getting a ride, it's so convenient to just whip out your phone and call them. It also makes me feel safe, knowing that I can dial any number at any time I want in case of any emergencies. It's just something that we live with now, and it's something as natural as the air we breathe.

So I guess I'll just leave you with my personal five rules of cell phone etiquette:
ONE. Use your 'inside voice'! I like listening to gossip as much as the next girl, but I'd really prefer it if you weren't screaming in my ear, or loud enough for a whole bus to hear. Not only is it annoying to everyone on the bus, but it's also pretty embarassing for you. Save yourself the embarassment! :)
TWO. Use the vibrate setting! Nothing's more annoying than a phone going off when it isn't supposed to, like when you're watching a movie or even working at school. Again, it's annoying, and embarassing on your behalf. :(
THREE. When using your phone when you're out with friends, don't forget your friends! Especially if you're out with only one person, it can get really annoying for the friend to have to just sit there and try not to eavesdrop on your conversation.
FOUR. Phone ≠ Ghettoblaster. LOL. It gets pretty annoying having to hear your music playing, especially if people don't like your music. So unless you can find music that can please every single person out there, you should probably just stick to personal headphones for yourself.
FIVE. Laaaastly, don't let your phone take over your life. Using your phone can get addicting, and it's even worse if your phone's never free. So don't misuse your phone if you don't have the money to pay for it. Also, a lot of people get addicted to talking on their phone and texting. But you shouldn't let it take over your life - there's more to life than talking and texting. Go outside! It's good for you. (Or you should do units, but whatever!)

Anyways, those are my five personal rules of cell phone etiquette. Enjoy!

Gaming Gone Wild!

I like video games alot, haha. :) I'm good with playing anything from Rockband to solitaire... if you could even call that a video game to begin with. Like most people, I get addicted to these really easily. Get me to play once, and I won't want to stop playing. :) For example, over the break my wireless internet connection stopped working, so I resorted to two games I had forgotten about - solitaire and freecell. And once I started, I was hooked, and I've been pretty obsessed with it ever since. It's sad to say, but I remember spending some nights of my Christmas break just sitting in bed playing Freecell for hours, completely forgetting about the time. But if you were to compare the addictiveness of solitaire to, let's say Rockband... Well that's a whole different story.

I think I kind of grew up with video games, so it just seems natural for me to play them. I can recall numerous times many years ago where my cousins & I would just sit down and play Super Mario on what seems like an ancient Nintendo 64 for hours. After the "Nintendo 64 era" passed, there was the Playstation, the Nintendo DS, the XBOX, the PSP, the Wii, etc., and I think that we can all safely assume that there will be another new spectacular game console to come in the future. I consider myself lucky because I can personally say that I've owned a Nintendo 64, a Playstation (one of the original PS1's, before the PS2 or PS3 came out, haha!), a Gameboy AND Gameboy Advance, a Nintendo DS, and (my personal favourite) a Nintendo Wii. Wow, I'd forgotten how many game consoles I've had. :) As time progresses, more games and systems are being created, and there are games designed for everyone from young children to adults, and everyone in between! It's also fun to try games that you wouldn't normally even consider. For example, during New Years day, my cousin and I were bored at our cousin's house, so we decided to play what I guess is considered a "boy" game called Gears Of War. We were horrible at it, but we had tons of fun and couldn't put it down, even after playing for hours and hours on end. :)

Plus it's not like video games are horrible for you either, as long as you don't get too addicted. Studies show that playing video games at a young age helps can help to increase a young one's learning rate. And game makers are becoming very aware of the health risks of games, and are therefore creating games that seem to encourage health. For example, one of my new favourite games, Wii Fit! It's all about balance and your health in general. The game includes a balance board, which is what you use throughout. You start off the program by taking a body test, and from there you can find out your BMI, weight, and even your "Wii Fit age". You are also encouraged to make weight goals for yourself by taking a body test everyday, since the balance board keeps track of your BMI and weight. Then you can go on and play games, activities, and exercises in four categories - strength training, aerobics, yoga, and balance games. To be honest, doing all of this is a complete workout, and I downed a whole water bottle playing for about half an hour. And that's alot, considering I don't really drink water in the first place!

So to sum this all up, I think that video games are good for you, as long as you don't get too addicted to it. I'm not saying that it's okay to play video games every living second of your life, but to take things in moderation. You shouldn't let them take over your whole life, but as they say, "whatever you do, do in moderation." :)
